This Morning's Delays

Donnerstag früh hat mein ohnehin schon arg lange dauernder Pendelweg noch mehr Zeit gekostet als sonst. Wir sind im Schritttempo unter der Park Avenue lang zum GCT geschlichen. Nun gut, Verspätungen kommen vor. Passiert, gerade in der Peak und auch gerne mal in einer großen Großstadt.

Heute Abend komme ich dann wieder zum Zug und habe de Vormittag und die 15 Minuten Verspätung schon lange vergessen und finde auf dem Sitz einen Brief...

The delays of up to 15 minutes that you may have experienced during your morning commute were caused by debris (=Geröll, Bauschutt) that blocked train traffic on two of four tracks in the Park Avenue Tunnel.

This incident left us two tracks on which to operate inbound and outbound service at height of our rush hour.

The debris was caused when a pantograph (=Stromabnehmer) on the 5.36am from Stamford malfunctioned and was raised in the Tunnel. While the train crew initiated emergency procedures to stop the train and prevent further damage, debris from the pantograph and Tunnek ceiling fell on the two tracks.

We immediately de-energized the affected tracks and dispatched emergency crews to quickly clear the debris. One track was brought back in about one hour; service was restored on the second affected track about 30 minutes thereafter.

We are investigating the cause of this incident, and apologize for any inconveniance you may have experiance due to this service disruption.



Was mir nur komisch vorkommt ist, dass die Stromabnehmer hier (wie z.B. bei der S-Bahn Berlin) unten am Zug montiert sind. Es gibt Stromschienen neben dem Gleis. Zumindest auf der Hudson River Line. Das mag offenbar in Richtung Stamford anders sein. Muss ich mir mal ansehen.
